At first glance, ERIN and Teamable are very similar solutions to manage your employee referral policy. However, there are several fundamental differences in functionality, design, support, and licensing between the two platforms. As you evaluate ERIN and Teamable for use with your employees, consider the questions below.
7 Questions to Consider When Comparing ERIN and Teamable
1. Are you buying an employee referral software for your admins or your employees?
The main fundamental difference between ERIN and Teamable is that Teamable is focused on giving recruiters access to employees’ contacts, and while ERIN does this, our focus is more on allowing employees to easily make referrals.
If you look at the Teamable “How it Works” page the very first step is employees connecting contacts. This is great for recruiters, but does little to engage the employees and may raise red-flag privacy concerns for your employees (more on that later).
Alternatively, ERIN has adopted an employee-first, mobile-first approach. ERIN offers a native mobile app for iOS and Android that allows the employees to be notified when jobs are added and to make referrals with a single tap. Our Smart Referrals will automatically make recommendations to your employees on who they should refer to a position. All employee-facing functionality is available in the mobile app and all functions take anywhere from 1 – 3 clicks. By providing the easiest way to stay in the loop and make referrals, and removing the need to get on a computer and navigate to a website, we are able to engage employees to participate in your recruitment efforts without interrupting their day job.
2. Why are your employees not making more referrals today?
You already have an employee referral policy, and you already have jobs, so why are your employees not participating and making referrals? Teamable’s focus is on connecting contacts and matching contacts with open positions (similar to the ERIN Smart Referrals feature). However, if your employees are not interested in connecting these contacts, will they find value in this type of system?
Alternatively, ERIN has adopted an employee-first, mobile-first approach. Our #1 goal is to eliminate barriers to participating in the employee referral program – and Smart Referrals is only one piece of that puzzle.
3. How are contacts added?
Both ERIN and Teamable support added contacts to the platform to automatically recommend contacts for open positions. However, how contacts are added, and where they are sourced from is very different.
Teamable shows that employees can “share their online connections from social networks”, however, the majority of major social networks block the viewing or exporting of contacts with their APIs (specifically LinkedIn and Facebook). LinkedIn does allow exporting of connections, but this process is very cumbersome and this file does not contain email addresses unless the contact specifically opted in to share email (less than 1% of LinkedIn profiles do this).
ERIN allows you to import contacts from email (anyone you’ve ever emailed) as well as all of your mobile contacts. Once the contacts are added to ERIN we build a Smart profile for each contact. The entire process takes less than 60 seconds!
4. Do you need mobile referrals?
Do all of your employees work 100% on their computers and in the office? Even if they do, will they be bothered to log in to a separate website? Teamable doesn’t offer a mobile app for employees to view jobs and make referrals, and requires them to navigate to a separate website to sign in and participate. They do have a mobile web browser, but it still lacks in the convenience of an actual mobile app.
ERIN allows employees to use the mobile app, and stay signed in, removing the requirement to be on a computer and to pull up a separate website. This allows employees to make referrals on their lunch break, at dinner, at trade shows, on the road, and from their couch. Mobile referrals keep your employees engaged in recruitment without interrupting their day job.
5. Do your employees have privacy concerns with sharing their contacts / network?
Teamable allows recruiting to see employees’ contacts and reach out to them directly. ERIN’s finder feature allows this same functionality, with one key fundamental difference:
When recruiters are searching for potential referrals in ERIN, we hide the contact information, only showing you the positions they’ve held and our ranking for their match with an open position. ERIN only exposes contact information to the recruiting team when a referral is made. This protects employees’ network/contact data, only sharing private information on who they know when they make a referral.
Teamable allows you to see contact information – meaning that once contacts are added recruiters have access to see who they are. This may not be a feature that your employees are comfortable with it may discourage them from using the platform.
6. Is “off the shelf” software good enough to support your policy?
Your business is unique. Your employee referral policy is unique to your business. Will off-the-shelf software be able to account for the unique aspects of your policy and still maximize success? One-off features are traditionally very difficult to implement with SaaS products, and Teamable may not be able to introduce small customizations for you at a cost-effective rate.
Alternatively, ERIN has a “custom feature” discussion with every Enterprise client that comes on. We know that even the smallest tweak, even if it’s completely unique to your business, can have the biggest impact on the results that you get. Our development team is dedicated to bringing your employee referral visions to life within the ERIN product.
Customizations range from modifying candidate statuses to a completely whitelabeled version of ERIN. We’ve even gone as far as adapting our software to work for RPOs in specific instances.
7. Is pricing a factor?
You’re already spending a lot of money on your Applicant Tracking System, no need to spend the same (or more) on your employee referral software.
While pricing can vary based on size and need, and quotes from other vendors such as Teamable are “custom”, ERIN offers competitive pricing that comes in around 30% – 50% cheaper than Teamable. Don’t believe us? Get a quote and see for yourself!
